A Brief History of the City of Doral

Doral, one of the most dynamic cities in southern Florida, is known for its rapid growth, cultural diversity, and its position as a key business hub in the Miami-Dade area. Although its history is relatively recent, its development has been remarkable.

The Beginnings of Doral

The history of Doral begins in the 1950s when Alfred and Doris Kaskel, visionary real estate entrepreneurs, acquired 2,400 acres of land in the area we now know as Doral. The Kaskels built the famous Doral Hotel and Country Club in 1962, which attracted golfers and visitors from around the world. In fact, the name "Doral" comes from a combination of their names: Doris and Alfred.

The golf club became an iconic landmark, known for its course called the "Blue Monster," which remains a world-class attraction.

Residential and Commercial Development

In the 1980s and 1990s, the area began transforming from a recreational destination into a residential and commercial community. Real estate development attracted families and professionals seeking a comfortable and strategic place to live and work.

Due to its proximity to Miami International Airport and major transportation routes, Doral became a logistics and business center. Many multinational companies established offices in the area, solidifying Doral as a commercial hub.

Incorporation as a City

In 2003, Doral was officially incorporated as a city. Since then, it has experienced rapid growth in both population and infrastructure. Today, it is recognized for its quality of life, excellent schools, and a vibrant multicultural community.

An International Destination

Doral is home to residents of various nationalities, giving it a cosmopolitan character. Known as "Little Venezuela" due to its large Venezuelan community, it also boasts a rich blend of Latin American, Caribbean, and other cultures from around the world.

The Present and the Future

Today, Doral is a modern city that combines urban amenities with a community-oriented atmosphere. Its shopping centers, parks, restaurants, and cultural events make it an attractive place to live and visit.

With ongoing development plans, Doral is positioned to continue growing as an example of diversity and progress in southern Florida.
